It’s home to some of the world’s best-known museums and galleries, including the Smithsonian Institution. Combine this with hip new restaurants and bars, stunning hotels, great nightlife, live music, theatres, charming neighbourhoods and terrific shopping options and you have a fantastic start to your trip through the Capital Region.

 

Discover “Virginia’s crowning glory.” Travel through lush rolling countryside, past gracious horse farms to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. For something truly unique don’t miss Luray Caverns, home to the world’s only organ made of stalactitites.

Thomas Jefferson dubbed this area the “Eden of the United States.” Jefferson’s mountaintop home, Monticello, is described as one of the country’s foremost architectural masterpieces and is listed on the World Heritage list. Charlottesville is a charming college town with many shops, restaurants and tea rooms.

The Capital of the Confederacy remains one of the most handsome capitals in the south. Old waterfront warehouses have been restored into trendy shops; Shockoe Bottom and Shockoe Slip feature restaurants, entertainment and boutiques. Fabulous museums including the American Civil War Museum, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Edgar Allan Poe Museum, Science Museum of Virginia and Children’s Museum make learning fun for the whole family.

 

Take scenic Route 5 to Williamsburg, Virginia. Visit one or more of the five plantations along this route: Sherwood Forest, Westover, Shirley, Evelynton and Berkeley Plantations. Colonial Williamsburg is the most extensively restored 18th century town in the USA. With lots of interactive opportunities history comes to life in Colonial Williamsburg.

 

Visit Newport News’ impressive Mariner’s Museum. Norfolk is home to the U.S.S. Wisconsin berthed at Nauticus, a museum that uses the natural setting of Norfolk's harbour to showcase global maritime commerce and the world's largest Navy. In Virginia Beach, feel free to simply relax on the broad, sandy beach or take a kayak tour or surfing lesson.

Rooms in both levels of accommodation choice provide private facilities and are based on the hotels standard or lead in room type.
