Gateway Region
is rich in culture and history. It boasts easy access to Lady Liberty and Ellis Island and is home to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, Thomas Edison’s home and lab in West Orange and Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. Also in Jersey City is Empty Sky, the state’s official 9/11 memorial and Newark has the moving Wars of America statue. By the same artist who designed Mount Rushmore, this World War I memorial features 42 men and two horses. At the New Jersey Botanical Gardens at Ringwood State Park, stroll 96 acres of gardens blooming with flowers. Free guided tours are available on Fridays.
